    nsp:notes "It is unclear when exactly this church became a priory. White notes, \"It seems probable that all the churches belonging to St. Agatha's were served by Benedictines, and the transition to the rank of priory might well be imperceptible.\" (121) There is also some disagreement over who founded this site. White argues that \"[t]he common statement that the Countess Adelicia, granddaughter of Roger I through Emma, was the foundress of St. Mary's of Robore Grosso cannot be substantiated from the documents we now possess.\" The church out of which the monastery grew appears to have existed before her time. (120) Other scholars, however, argue that she was."^^xsd:string ;

    nsp:notes "The first mention of Santa Maria di Robore Grosso dates back to 1134. In that year, Adelicia, grandaughter of Roger I, granted the sacred building to the abbey of St. Agatha of Catania. The concession, which was made for the redemption of the soul of her husband Rinaldo Avenel, who had died a few years earlier, also involved large tracts of land allocated to the Benedictines. The properties were located on the southern slope of Etna and specifically within the signoria of Adernò. In 1156, Adelicia, in order to thank God for the protection granted to her son Adam, who had been engaged in an expedition in Apulia, donated to the monks of Santa Maria di Robore Grosso other extensive lands for the cultivation of vines and cereals. Santa Maria di Robore Grosso was one of the oldest priories of the Abbey of St Agatha. In addition to being a centre of religious piety and a place of welcome for pilgrims, it also served as a rural farm, providing the monks with a number of agricultural products destined to be marketed by the Benedictines themselves in Mediterranean (including Sicilian) markets. Of the ancient sacred building, the perimeter walls have recently been traced near the contrada Rovere Grosso, falling within the current territory of Biancavilla. Part of the apse and portions of other structures leaning against the church remain visible. - Antonio Mursia, Ph.D., researcher at the University of Rome \"La Sapienza,\" 2024. As for its foundation, White (Latin Monasticism in Norman Sicily, 120) offered the following caution: \"The common sttatement that the Countess Adelicia, granddaughter of Roger I through Emma, was the foundress of St. Mary's of Robore Grosso cannot be substantiated from the documents we now possess. Such a church seems to have existed before her time; for in the first notice of her presence in Sicily, in April 1134, ind. 12, she gives to the abbey of St. Agatha in Catania, besides the church of St. Philip in Adernò, 'quandam ecclesiam que sita est in territorio Adernionis in honorem sancte Marie, cum sibi pertinentibus, et adiacentibus terris, vineis, et villanis.'\" White continues (120-21) to say that the identification of this monastery with the church mentioned in the Latin charter is confirmed in a later document issued in November 1200 by Frederick II. White continues to say that when it beccame a priory, transitioning from its previous status as a church, is unknown."^^xsd:string ;
