There is some uncertainty here, including whether there was a summer abbey in the area as well. As for background, the following has been shared by Antonio Mursia, \"In 1143, Simon (Simone) del Vasto, son of Henry (Enrico), granted the monastery of Saint Mary of Licodia to the monk Geremia, in an area of strategic importance near Paternò. This monastery, probably of Byzantine origin, had been restored by Simon as part of a policy aimed at rooting the power of the Aleramic family in central-eastern Sicily, reinforcing its authority through the foundation of monastic communities. The monastery was endowed with extensive possessions, including lands in Paternò, Butera, and Cerami, and assumed an important role in the control and management of vast agricultural territories. In addition, several rural churches and granges, including Saint Philip in Pantano, were annexed to the monastery, contributing to the economic and administrative management of the monastic estate. Saint Mary of Licodia quickly became a centre of power and social attraction, playing a significant role in controlling local rural society. Despite its dependence on the Abbey of St. Agatha of Catania, the priory enjoyed considerable autonomy, with extensive seigniorial rights and immunity from certain tributes, making it an important ecclesiastical and political entity in the territory.\""^^xsd:string ;
